Breakfast: I tried the breakfast basket and their signature sourdough pancakes.

Verdict: The bread here is worth the trek. To make the most of it, make sure you buy some to take home with you!

A good friend and work colleague of mine was due to leave Sydney for New York. (Moving to bigger and better things, food-wise me thinks!) Anyway, we pick two spots for a farewell double breakfast: Brasserie Bread and Sonoma. Our first stop is here, at Brasserie Bread. The shop is crowded but we manage to get a table, thanks to the punctuality of my friend who arrived promptly at 9:00am. She tells me the sourdough pancakes are good, so I order them, opting for a topping of stewed berries and honeycomb cream over banana and pure maple syrup.

I can definitely taste the sourdough, and the pancakes are light and fluffy inside. The honeycomb cream is delicious with the berries which add an extra sour tang. It’s a lot less sweet than I anticipated, but it’s certainly a twist on the traditional pancakes with maple syrup combo which appear on so many breakfast menus. The breakfast basket is fresh, and contains toasted sourdough and croissants, and we have fun sampling the different jam options. Hubby also tries one of the toasted sandwich options – I have a bite and it is really tasty. To top our stop off, we buy some garlic bread to take home with us. It looks and smells amazing – with caramelised whole garlic cloves visible, we know it will pack a punch!

Takeaway: Coffees with a variety of pastries: citrus tart, lemon polenta teacake, and quiche.

Verdict: Modern warehouse feel makes a spacious breakfast spot with delicious coffees and freshly baked goodies to boot.

We come here for second breakfast, mostly to check it out as the Alexandria cafe only recently opened. We like the look of the cafe, and vow to come back next time. You can’t stop the girl from buying more baked goods – and we order some light snacks to take away with us. Who says (wo)men can’t live on bread alone?
